Classy, Updated Bathroom in 1920s Home in New Rochelle, NY

The Brief

The main bathroom for the home, used by family and guests alike, this 2nd floor bathroom started out with plain gray walls and a sink balanced on wire open shelving. Transformed with lighting, a blue and white color palette, a chair rail with added millwork, and new lighting, cabinetry, and faucets it is now an elegant place that reflects the beauty of this small room.

the Design

  • Walls were painted a crisp, clean white. The original blue and white basketweave floor was cleaned and retained.

  • A new navy blue vanity - to match the color of the floor - was installed along with a complimentary large ceramic marble pattern backsplash.

  • A chair rail and custom hand-designed millwork details were added to the walls.

  • Gold-tone faucets, toilet paper holder, handles, and light fixtures were added for a glam touch.

  • The Indian block print fabric shower curtain from Saffron Marigold, adds an artisanal touch and brings a new shade of brighter blue into the room along with a colorful pattern.
